Some Dead and Missing as Heavy Storms and Flash floods slam Greece PDF Print E-mail

ATHENS, Dec 10 (AFP) Dec 10, 2009

A 70-year-old livestock farmer drowned on Thursday and another two
people were missing after heavy rainfall caused flooding in central
Greece, state television NET reported.

The 70-year-old was trapped by rising torrent waters in Almyros, near
the central city of Volos. His brother who rushed to his aid is missing,
as is another person in a neighbouring area, NET said.

Earlier Thursday, four Albanians trapped by snow in Florina prefecture
further north of the country were hospitalised after a rescue operation
by emergency crews.

Greece will face rain storms and falling temperatures over the next few
days after a spell of unseasonally warm weather.
