14.10.2008, 10.17 MOSCOW, October 13 (Itar-Tass) -- According to specified data, more than 1,000 buildings were destroyed as a result of an earthquake in Chechnya, the Information Department of the Russian Ministry for Emergencies told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.
“All in all 1,027 buildings and facilities were destroyed or badly damaged, including 1,014 private houses and 13 socially important facilities, including hospitals, in the Kurchaloi, Shali, Gudermes, Grozny and Nozhai-Yurt regions, ” a representative of the Information Department said. At present, rescue-restoration works are going on in the republic. The “emergency situation” regime is in force. The earthquake occurred in Chechnya on October 11. Several underground tremors with a magnitude of up to 5.6 points on the Richter scale were registered at a depth of 10 kilometres in Shelkovskoi region of the republic. The power of the earthquake in the epicentre amounted to 7.5-8 points. Tremors with a magnitude of 3-4 points were felt in Makhachkala, the Stavropol Territory, as well as in Mozdok, Vladikavkaz and Armavir. A total of 13 people, including six children, died in the earthquake. Some 105 people got injuries, 26 of them are staying in hospitals at present.
