LIMA, Peru -- A strong earthquake has shaken central Peru, causing
people to flee buildings in the jungle city of Pucallpa but inflicting
no major damage.

The U.S. Geological Survey is reporting that Tuesday's quake had a
magnitude of 6.3 and its epicenter was 58 miles (93 kilometers) north of
Pucallpa, the capital of Ucayali province.

Residents of tall buildings in the jungle city ran into the streets
after the quake struck, but here were no immediate reports of deaths.

On Aug. 15, 2007, a magnitude-8.0 earthquake killed more than 500 people
and destroyed about 40,000 homes on Peru's southern coast.
