A STRONG earthquake with an estimated magnitude of 6.1 struck today near the Pacific islands of Tonga, the US Government said.
The US Geological Survey said the epicentre of the quake, which occurred at 0731 GMT (1731 AEST), was located 363 kilometres west of the island nation's capital Nuku'alofa.
No reports of casualties or damage were immediately available.
