U.N. says Darfur dead may be 300,000 as Sudan denies Print E-mail

As many as 300,000 people may have died in the five-year conflict in Darfur, a dramatic increase over earlier estimates of 200,000, a top U.N. official said on Tuesday.

A "silent tsunami" unleashed by costlier food threatens 100 million people, the United Nations said on Tuesday, and aid groups said producers would make things worse if they curbed exports.

MOGADISHU (Reuters) - Somali rebels seized two more towns on Monday and corpses lay outside a Mogadishu mosque as the death-toll from battles between Islamist-led insurgents and allied Ethiopian-Somali troops rose to at least 85.
