However, such dynamically developing countries with huge populations, like India and China, are already suffering from a tangible fresh water shortage. Their powerful rivers, the Gang and the Yangtze, stay shallow for quite long periods every year. The fast growth of such cities as Delhi and Beijing is causing ground waters to drop.

BANGOK, 12 December 2008 (IRIN) - Tens of thousands of people along the
northern coast of Papua New Guinea (PNG) have been displaced by flooding
caused by abnormally high tides in recent days. Houses have been flooded
and vegetable gardens destroyed.

the northeastern state of Assam and setting up isolation units to treat
up to 90 people showing signs of the virus, health authorities said on
